Mainly cured in Cyprus now for political reasons, the fresh leaves from Syria used to be hung on frames but nowadays are also laid on the ground in bunches to be sun-cured.
It's a tiny industry and the leaves are mainly used in English blends although the U.S.A. has now cottoned on to its chsaracteristics.
Labour intensive, the sun-cured leaves are fire -cured in Cyprus, and when finished the result is amazing, it's low in nicotine, burns easily but adds a distinctive taste to any blend. So however you wish to use it Latakia is one of the most amazing pipe tobaccos you will ever use.
