Padilla Fumas are rolled for the boutique firm Padilla Cigar Company, founded in 2003 by Ernesto Padilla. A Cuban American who was born in Havana and moved to the U.S.A., where he grew up. The brand Padilla was created by him in memory of his father, Herberto Padilla who was humiliated by the Castro regime for writing anti-government poetry.
Originally a graphic artist, he learned his trade at Tabacalera Perdomo, where he worked in marketing.
The range uses mixed filler from leaf that's left over from making their premium long filler lines, keeping prices reasonable. Whilst the burn may vary and the draw may be a little uneven, at the price you've paid it's still a good cigar.
The Padilla Fumas Toro begins with a good-looking Honduran Habanos wrapper leaf. Small-batch, short-length Honduran filler leaves are held in place by a longer binder leaf. Measuring 6" x 50 ring gauge and an average smoking time of 60 minutes, there's time to relax.
The choice of leaf results in a cigar with rich coffee notes, with leather, dark chocolate and a little spice. There's also some woodiness and vanilla, which adds to the overall character.
An affordable everyday budget cigar, and well worth trying.
