The Menthol Cigarette Ban UK
From 20 May 2020 the sale of all menthol cigarettes will be banned. This law applies to all online retailers and shops. The law will make it an offence to manufacture or sell menthol cigarettes after this date.
Why are Menthol Cigarettes being banned?
The ban of menthol cigarettes follows recommendations based on the research conducted by the Action on Smoking and Health who said 'Research shows that menthol cigarettes makes it easier for children to try smoking and go on to become addicted smokers'.
What is the Menthol Cigarette Ban Law?
The European Union's Tobacco Products Directive (2014/40/EU) sets out this ban for all EU member states. This law applies, regardless of Britain's exit from the EU.
What type of Menthol Cigarettes will be Banned?
This ban applies to click on, click and roll, dual, crushball and capsule menthol cigarettes. The ban also applies to menthol skinny cigs, and all menthol flavoured tobacco products which were banned in 2017.
Can you still sell Menthol Cigarettes after 20 May 2020?
No. Even if our stock hasn't run out, we are not allowed to sell menthol cigarettes after this date. Any retailer offering Menthol cigarettes after this date is liable for a conviction and imprisonment for up to two years.
Does this affect Menthol Tobacco?
Menthol hand-rolling tobacco is also affected and will be banned on 20 May 2020. Other flavoured hand-rolling tobaccos were already banned in 2017.
